Stephanie Petrie-Brown

My name is Stephanie, and I’m 22 years old. I’m currently enrolled at Marca College located in Brampton, ON and I’ll be graduating in June 2014. Registering to hair school was one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself because I have always known that I wanted to become a hairstylist. I finally have the knowledge and confidence to complement my thriving passion to design hair and make people feel great about themselves. This contest is such a great opportunity to show off a creative and unique hair design that I have created and to share with everyone a little bit of my personality. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me!

What went into creating the look:

My inspiration for this look came from the beautiful peacock. I really admire the colours and uniqueness of their appearance and that's how I wanted my design to be.This mannequin started off at a level 7 and my desired level was a 9. To achieve this I lightened the whole head using a powdered lightener and 20 vol. The next step for my colour process I sectioned out a small area in the interior of the head then sub sectioned it into 2 pieces on a slight angle. For one half I used a mix of aqua and teal direct dye and the other side I used a violet direct dye. For the remainder of the hair I sectioned it off into 2-3 inch triangles and circles and rotated the colour of dye to put on each one. I used majority of the aqua, teal and violet for the sections but I put a few copper pieces more towards the exterior of the head. When styling my mannequin I started by creating a French roll on the top slightly on an angle and created a wave in the hair with the remainder of the hair in the roll. I then took the rest of the hair and backcombed it to have maximum volume. I then went in with a triple barrel iron and gave the wave effect to the teased hair. I smoothed the left side of the hair back, and brought a little piece of waved hair forward laying on top of it. On the right side of my mannequin the teased hair comes down toward the face on a diagonal forward angle.
